Oh, what a BAT-tastic week!

October 20, 2015
Last week was such an amazing week!!

Let's start with our newest center...the TABLET center!  I'm not sure who was more excited about the tablet center, me or the kiddos!  We received five brand new kid-friendly android tablets from my Donors Choose project this week.  My project was funded by a mixture of friends, strangers, and Chevron!  I'm so excited to see what is in store for these tablets in our classroom!

We've already started using the tablets in a center.  I plan to also use these tablets for projects and activities.  I want to use the camera features for students to record themselves and take pictures of their work.

We've also started our BAT week!

We read the book, Bats by Gail Gibbons and learned many new facts about bats!

During my writing intervention time, my kiddos wrote on a Can, Have, Are chart.  Did you know bats have warm blooded bodies?

We also read the fiction story, Stellaluna by Janell Cannon.  We really enjoyed learning about how Stellaluna, a fruit bat, tried to be a bird.  In the end, we found out that bats are different from birds in many ways.  We wrote about the main idea and found details from the text to help support our thinking.

We also created our bat craftivity!  We wrote the main idea from Stellaluna and gave text evidence.  We really enjoyed making these bats and now they are hanging in the classroom and hallway!

We also included bats in our math lessons!  We learned our doubles rap song and played a bat game with our newly learned facts.
